According to a commercial technology news website, LiDAR sensor can help owners drive safely in dark nights. Even if you don't drive a headlight, you don't have to worry about it.
Google revealed plans to develop self-driving cars several years ago. Until now, global automotive and technology companies are exploring this area with huge market prospects. The car at this stage has been equipped with a reversing camera, a constant-speed manipulator and sensors. When we are too close to an obstacle, these devices will prompt us to stay away from danger, but the self-driving car is much more advanced. According to Google and other companies, the purpose of self-driving cars is to reduce man-made driving mistakes, thereby reducing the number of accidents and casualties. However, in addition to considering the possibility of the driver colliding with careless driving during the day, the R&D personnel should also consider how to make the self-driving car safe under poor lighting and bad weather conditions, so that the self-driving car can be worthy of the name.
The lack of light is extremely common, but sometimes it can have fatal consequences. Last week, Ford revealed that it is focusing on improving the safety of driving vehicles in poor light conditions. Ford's self-driving cars rely on three types of sensors—radars, cameras, and lidar distance sensors—to detect roads, obstacles, and track vehicle positions. Laser technology can emit approximately 2.8 million laser pulses in one second, allowing the car to have full sensor functionality under any external conditions. Self-driving cars can use this data to generate a 3D map of the surroundings. In testing the technology, Ford engineers used night-vision goggles and observed the Ford Fusion car outside the car. They said that without driving the headlights, the Fusion car could only rely on LiDAR technology to drive on a dark road without any accident.
